The colour of CBD oil can vary hugely, especially in an ever growing market with many different brands available. This makes it hard to know how to identify the best quality CBD oil.
It can be easy to become confused when choosing, and when it comes to your health and wellness, especially if you have a budget, you need to know that the CBD oil you buy will be the most effective one for your needs.
The colour of CBD oil is determined by a few factors:
- The extraction process - has the oil been extracted using the Supercritical CO2 method or using a hydrocarbon based method (usually ethanol)? At KLORIS we use Supercritical CO2 to extract the cannabidiol and other cannabinoids from the Cannabis Sativa Hemp plant. This ensures a clean extraction with no residual solvents (the Carbon Dioxide gas (CO2) cleanly evaporates away), resulting in a cleaner and purer oil which is dark golden in colour.
- Has the CBD oil extract been decarboxylated? Decarboxylation simply means heating up. When the extracted cannabis oil is heated this converts CBDA, the acidic form of CBD into CBD. This helps increase bioavailability of the CBD when consumed.
- Has the CBD oil been filtered? At KLORIS we triple filter our CBD oil and use chromatography to remove the THC, CBN, CBDV and other currently prohibited cannabinoids, while leaving the other beneficial compounds intact. This process ensures KLORIS CBD Oils contain no THC and are safe to travel with to destinations where CBD is not prohibited. The resulting oil is commonly referred to as Broad Spectrum CBD oil.
- What is the carrier (base) oil used? Many brands use olive oil or hemp seed oil to blend with the CBD oil which will lead to a darker coloured oil with an intense green earthy flavour and scent.
At KLORIS we use MCT (Medium Chain Triglyceride) oil derived from Organic Coconuts as our carrier oil. While more expensive to use, this is a colourless and flavourless oil which mixes very effectively with CBD to ensure an even distribution throughout the bottle. MCT is also very easily absorbed by the body, helping to make the CBD more bioavailable, giving the most benefit per drop.
Using a higher concentrate CBD oil along with MCT means that KLORIS CBD oils are of a pale and light gold colour with a lighter, more palatable taste.
