What is CBD? A quick guide

CBD is short for cannabidiol, which is one of more than 120 cannabinoids found in the Hemp/Cannabis plant. Cannabis oil, or CBD oil as it is more commonly known, is an oil that is produced by extracting this particular compound from the flowers of the cannabis plant.

CBD is completely legal in the UK and in many western countries, as while derived from cannabis, CBD is not the same as medical marijuana and it is not psychotropic or intoxicating (unlike THC, the most commonly known cannabinoid) so will not get you high.

In Europe, CBD can only legally be produced from Hemp, which naturally has very low levels of THC (unlike Marijuana, a different type of Cannabis plant). European Hemp must contain less than 0.2% THC and come from approved varieties of seed.

CBD activates the CB1 and CB2 receptors in your body's Endocannabinoid system, which tell it to feel a certain way and do certain things. They also affect and regulate other bodily systems, like your immune, nervous, and gastrointestinal systems.

The endocannabinoid system plays a vital role in our health, and while CBD is classed as a wellness supplement and no specific claims can be made, research is already showing that supplementing with CBD has potential benefit for many conditions.

Although CBD is just now becoming fairly mainstream, largely because of the debates surrounding medical cannabis, cannabis actually has a long history of providing relief in many different countries around the world for thousands of years.

A big part of our mission at KLORIS is to help educate and demystify the myths and confusion around CBD use. On this site and our instagram feed we'll be regularly referencing research papers published by medical and unbiased sources.
